Tonight Hollywood shines a little brighter. Millions of people around the country will tune in to their “small screens” to see who wins best picture, best actor and best actress. The Nominees for the 84th Academy Awards are:
Picture The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse
Actor: Demián Bichir, George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt
Actress: Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams
Directing: The Artist, The Descendants, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, The Tree of Life
The couture and speeches that thank the Academy will be plentiful.  Many will attend Oscar parties and tonight.  This year  I will join their ranks as I attend my first Oscar party. I cannot even venture a guess as to who will win. So on Oscar Sunday I want to share a video clip from one of my favorite lawyer movies, Philadelphia.  Andrew Beckett is on the stand and under oath testifying as to why he loves being a lawyer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPXGawYznno&feature=fvwrel The film was released in 1993 when I was in law school.  The clip resonates with me because in less than 60 seconds Tom Hanks summed up the ideology that drove most my classmates to law school. Hooray for Hollywood!
