Making Good on Our Commitment Makes us Feel GREAT!

SJLSEarlier today I had the opportunity to represent not one but two clients in Atlantic County Superior Court. Both clients were pro bono referrals from South Jersey Legal Service‘s “SJLS,” Private Attorney Involvement “PAI” program.  PAI seeks to empower low-income individuals to access the judicial system so they will achieve the greatest possible measure of substantive, procedural and economic justice through the provision of high quality, cost efficient, innovative and effective pro bono civil legal assistance. I am happy to report that both clients obtain the divorce they sought.  Below are photos of the happy clients moments after they received their final judgment of divorce. Pro Bono in Atlantic County   Atlantic County Pro Bono As regular readers of our blog may recall, we previously wrote about the firm’s commitment to pro bono service and meeting the unmet legal needs in our community. In the previous article, Making a Difference by Being a Voice, I described the personal satisfaction with serving somebody who would otherwise not have legal representation. I concluded my article by saying,
My experience in the PAI program was so positive that I contacted Michelle and asked her to send me another client who needed a voice.
The “Michelle” that I was referring to is Michelle Nuciglio, Director of Pro Bono Services, at South Jersey Legal Services Inc.  True to my word, I contacted Michelle and asked her to send the firm another pro bono assignment. She asked if I be willing to take a case in Atlantic County.  Michelle explained that the SJLS backlog of cases in Atlantic County was significant. Our firm regularly practices in the southern shore counties and we are committed to providing pro bono legal services to the communities where we work. I told Michelle that we were more than equipped to handle cases in either Cape May or Atlantic County Superior Court. Ultimately, our firm took on a half a dozen pro bono cases in Atlantic County. Today we were able to successfully resolve to cases and we continue to work on the others. If you or your firm would like to volunteer and be a pro bono attorney for SJLS, please contact Michelle T. Nuciglio, Esquire, Director of Pro Bono Services and Centralized Intake at SJLS, at (856) 964-2010 ext. 6229 or mnuciglio@lsnj.org.  SJLS has a wide variety of legal needs and I’m sure Michelle will help find the right opportunity for somebody willing to give back. One of the great advantages of the PAI program is the clients are screen for income and legal meeting requirement before the referral is made.   I am happy to discuss my many positive experiences being involved with SJLS’s PAI program. Feel free to call me at 856-546-1350 with any questions you or your firm may have about this very rewarding program.
