A.C. Child Support Training Session Will Focus On ‘Special Needs Trusts’

wheelchairDeMichele & DeMichele attorneys regularly participate in seminars, forums, and other legal education activities to help further the legal community and general public’s understanding of key concepts in the areas in which they practice. Next up, our attorney Richard A. DeMichele, Jr. will lead a child support training session on March 14, 2014 at the Revel Resort and Casino in Atlantic City. The specific topic: Child Support for “Adult Children” Rick’s discussion will focus on the topic of “special needs trusts” or SNT, a legal mechanism established to address the needs of families with disabled adult children who need to maintain eligibility for certain needs-based government benefits. Rick will be joined by co-presenter Brenda Lee Eutsler, a trusts and estates attorney of Asbell & Eutsler, P.A. in nearby Cherry Hill and a fellow former president of the Camden County Bar Association. Under the SNT framework, child support is paid directly into the special needs trust, and this income is not calculated in determining eligibility for government benefits by shielding income and assets from consideration in determining both federal and state benefits. The key, of course, is to ensure that the SNT is properly drafted to conform to both the parties’ needs and applicable legal standards. Our attorneys can help you protect yourself, your children, and your hard-earned assets. If you have specific questions involving the special needs trust or child support generally, then please don’t hesitate to contact the South Jersey child support attorneys at DeMichele and DeMichele.
