Burlington County’s Assignment Judge, Ronald Bookbinder, announced yesterday that the Springfield Township Municipal Court would merge with the Mansfield Township Municipal Court. You can read the notice to the bar by clicking here. The merger is scheduled to be effective April 1, 2012.  All existing Springfield Township Municipal Court matters will be transferred to the Mansfield Township Municipal Court.  Last year the Haddonfield Municipal Court merged with the Audubon Municipal Court. In most cases, towns such as Springfield agree to merge their municipal court systems in an attempt to save taxpayer dollars. It is unclear how much is actually saved by the merger of two municipal courts. Often times the town that merges its municipal court winds up paying additional overtime to the officers who need to travel out of town to testify in court. If you or a friend are charged with a crime or an offense in New Jersey’s Municipal Court system, contact the criminal defense lawyers at DeMichele & DeMichele.  A free initial consultation is only a phone call away (856) 546-1350.
