BlueStar Wall Ovens Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Recalls Hazardous BlueStar Wall Ovens

If you own a recalled oven, stop using it immediately.  The recalled ovens have a known fire hazard that needs to be repaired before it can be used again. Some of the wall ovens have damaged flexible gas appliance connectors and/or have been improperly installed.  There has been at least one report of a fire.   For more information on the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall visit the Bluestar Wall Oven Recall webpage, BlueStar wall ovens are manufactured by Prizer-Painter Stove Works, Inc. in Reading, Pennsylvania.  The recalled ovens in question are in appliance stores across the nation and are sold at price points  between $2,250 and $3,900. The recalled models are listed below:

• 24-inch BlueStar™ residential wall oven with swing door  Model # BWO24AGS and BWO24AGSL
• 30-inch BlueStar™ residential wall oven with French doors Model # BWO30AGS and BWO30AGSL
• 36-inch BlueStar™ residential wall oven with French doors Model # BWO36AGS and BWO36AGSL

According to the CPSC website,

This recall involves three models of BlueStar gas-powered stainless steel wall ovens manufactured prior to November 23, 2012.  Oven sizes include 24-,30- and 36-inches wide units.  Each of the three sizes were available for use with natural gas or liquid propane.  The propane version is designated by the letter “L” at the end of the model number.  Model numbers and date codes are located on the rating plate inside the control panel.  There is a Blue Star logo on the upper left front of the oven, above the door.

According to the CPSC Recall Webpage, consumers can contact the manufacturer online at www.bluestarcooking.com and click on “Recall” for more information. However, when we visited www.bluestarcooking.com we could not find the “Recall” link on the landing page. We had to search the website using “recall” to find information on the recall.    Could it be that Prizer-Painter Stove Works, Inc. does not want to publicize the recall to prospective customers?
